Ask HN: How to Break into IC (Integrated Circuit) Design Field

With Apple switching to custom Silicon and also AWS with their Graviton2 ARM processors, I think we will see more companies start making their own custom chips instead of using general purpose ones from say Intel. I have a B.Sc in EE and took classes in VLSI Design, Computer Architecture, and Digital Circuits. What will you say is the biggest step to take to break into the field at my level?
