Discuss: Is the "Dr Google" phnomenom telling us something?

A recent newspaper article [1] here in Australia is as usual scaring people from using Google as a self-diagnosis mechanism. But is the fact that people don't go to the doctor and attempting self-diagnosis suggesting that the "doctor" industry is broken?

In Australia we have a pretty solid medicare system which makes seeing a GP pretty cheap, yet people still hate doing it and would prefer to take the risk on Dr Google's diagnosis.

Is there room for a technology solution to the problem?
