Ask HN: Best way to inform buyers of manufacturing/sourcing of a product

I have been looking for a chrome extension that would suggest me alternatives to products I am looking at on amazon that have manufacturing located in places that align with my values. So far, I have not been able to find anything so I figured I should take a stab on make that product myself.

For an MVP, I would create a DB that store companies and their manufacturing/sourcing location. For an MVP, I would register the companies manually but later there would be a submission process. There would be a chrome extension that would consume the data and suggest alternatives based on the user's preferences (e.g. I have chosen a preference to buy american, if I am looking at shoes on amazon I would like to see a list of shoes that are mostly manufactured in the US).

I am mostly looking for feedback on this idea. I have been doing research and there already are DBs that companies can register that indicates that a certain company makes products in X. I could use that data to seed my db, but beyond that I am at a loss. Any critical feedback would be appreciated
