Ask HN: How trustworthy/secure is Lantern?

I have been looking for a VPN service for a while now to use on guest/public wifis that block access to certain websites (i.e. Gmail, Slack, and Github). I followed the advice on of the VPN suggestion threads on here and went with Mullvad but unfortunately it got blocked on one of the networks that I frequently use.

I came across Lantern [0] a few days ago and I'm unsure if it is trustworthy or secure. I was wondering if anyone on HN knows about them and would recommend or advice against using it? I read through their FAQ and they didn't seem to be doing anything shady but with services like this, you'd never know.
