Ask HN: Could blockchain secure privacy?

On HN

Blockchain seems to be a good medium to disseminate encrypted personal data in a potentially decentralized network.

Why not use it to store personal data such as FB to only be decrypted via a private key?

Devil is in the details of course.

All I've heard thus far of blcokchain's utilization is monetization schemes, not necessarily deriving value for civilization.
