Ask HN: Spam filter statistics?

I turned on the 'view dead' feature and was surprised to see so many dead links, namely on the 'new' tab. Out of curiosity, does anyone know some statistics on how much spam is typical of a social news site and what kind of filter HN uses (reliance on user?)?
