Jumping from I.T/Engineering to Sales

Hello, I am a HPC User support/sys admin . Most of my professional life has been in research/academics. I do provide technical and application support for researchers utilizing HPC. Being in academics as its pros (research , flexibility, work/life balance etc) and con (Red tape , less salary, not professional growth). In the field of HPC, there are many vendors, who focus more sales. Has any one jumped from being a Sys admin/support role in academia/research to a sales consultant with hardware/software vendor.? Can some one who is used to flexibility in research/academia adapt well in corporate world with tight deadlines. ?
