Ask HN: Do people like gamified social apps?

I just read an article on TheNextWeb[1] and I wonder do people like gamified apps?

Recently I see a lot of mostly mobile apps doing this, like collection coins and other virtual goods for some activity (checkins, doing workout etc). Do people like this or is it pushing them away?
